Our Bowen Therapy provides solutions.

Bowen sessions include a series of precise moves in specific areas of the body with many pauses in between that allows for the nervous system to integrate what it was instructed to do with muscle alignment. The moves are gentle and very lightly performed, and can be done through the clothing. The moves themselves are simple skin slack in opposition to the intended move, with a muscle challenge, and then the skin is allowed to move across the structure.

The Bowen technique is beneficial since it requires minimal intervention as compared to other hands-on therapies and is relatively pain free. It also does not interfere with other therapies, allowing the body to do what it wisely knows how to do-heal itself!

Our Bowen Specialized Procedures address a long list of issues you may be dealing with. These procedures can also be performed on infants and pregnant women.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bowen Therapy

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a gentle, hands-on bodywork technique designed to support the body’s natural healing processes. It focuses on soft tissue, muscles, connective tissue and fascia, helping to release tension, improve mobility, and encourage overall balance.

What can I expect during a Bowen Therapy session?

During a session, you will lie fully clothed on a treatment table. The therapist will use light, precise rolling or gentle pressure moves over specific muscle and connective-tissue points. The session is typically relaxing and non-invasive. Afterwards, many patients are encouraged to rest, stay hydrated, and avoid heavy physical strain to allow the body time to integrate the changes.

What kinds of conditions can Bowen Therapy help with?

Bowen Therapy may help with a variety of issues, including back and neck pain, chronic muscle tension, joint stiffness, migraines or headaches, stress-related tension, and musculoskeletal imbalance. It can also be used as a complement to other naturopathic or wellness treatments to support overall health and well-being.

Is Bowen Therapy suitable for everyone?

Bowen Therapy is generally gentle and appropriate for many ages and body types. However, certain conditions (recent surgery, severe injury, fractures, acute illness, or certain medical conditions) may require special consideration. It’s always best to discuss your health history before beginning therapy to ensure it’s appropriate and safe for you.

How many sessions will I need, and how often?

The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, its severity, and how your body responds. Some people feel improvements after the first session; others may require multiple sessions over a few weeks or months. Your practitioner may suggest a schedule tailored to your needs — often starting with more frequent visits, then tapering as progress is made.

What should I do before and after a session?

Before a session, wear comfortable clothing and avoid heavy meals immediately prior. After the session, rest, drink plenty of water, and allow your body time to integrate the work. Light activity or gentle stretching may help, but avoid strenuous exercise on the same day if possible.

Can Bowen Therapy be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Bowen Therapy often complements other naturopathic services, wellness therapies, or lifestyle interventions. Combining therapies — such as nutritional support, stress-management, or holistic lifestyle counseling — can enhance overall effectiveness and support long-term well-being.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Bowen Therapy is generally considered low-risk and well-tolerated. Some people may experience mild soreness or fatigue after a session as the body adjusts. If you have complex medical conditions or concerns, it’s important to communicate them with your practitioner so treatment can be adapted or scheduled appropriately.
