QWhy would you choose naturopathic medicine?

QWhat is the difference between Naturopathic Doctors and Conventional Doctors?

  • Conventional Medicine primarily deals with diseases and their symptoms while naturopathic medicine emphasizes balancing the body for innate healing to occur, and uncovering the root cause of the imbalance. It emphasizes education and empowerment of the patient to understand their body allowing for optimal health and long term wellness.

QIs Naturopathic Medicine covered by OHIP?

  • Unfortunately, it is not covered under OHIP. However, most extended healthcare plans do cover a portion of the consultation fees and possibly some lab fees. Refer to you extended healthcare benefits package for more details, or contact your service provider for information.

QWhat kind of education do Naturopathic Doctors have?

  • They are licensed primary health care providers in complementary medicine.
  • An undergraduate Bachelor’s degree is required prior to admittance to an accredited college. Pre-requisite courses include biology, psychology, chemistry and physics.
  • They must attain 4,000+ hours of academic and clinical training and a diploma from a 4-year full-time accredited naturopathic medical college, along with an internship of one year.
  • Successful completion of 2 NPLEX North American Licensing Exams and an Ontario Licensing exam. The former covering basic medical sciences (biochemistry, immunology, anatomy, pathology etc.) and clinical sciences covering pharmacology, laboratory diagnosis, physical and clinical diagnosis, botanical and Chinese medicine, homeopathy and clinical nutrition. The latter encompassing practical examinations for spinal manipulation, acupuncture and physical and clinical diagnosis, and jurisprudence.
  • Annual continuing education credits are required to keep one’s license from the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapies

QCan Naturopathic Doctors interpret medical lab and blood work testing and/or diagnostic imaging?

  • Naturopathic Doctors have been trained to interpret blood work and medical lab and diagnostic imaging and tests. If you have a copy of any of these tests, bring them to your first consultation so that your Naturopathic Doctor can record and interpret them.

QWhat should one expect from a Reiki treatment?

ASince Reiki is an energetic therapy, everyone has a different experience with a treatment. Generally, there is tingling and a feeling of warmth during the treatment. A feeling of relaxation and calm is a common report during a treatment. A more positive and balanced outlook is reported at the end of the treatments. Treatments can range from 30 mins to 60 mins depending on the condition being treated.

A Reiki is an energetic therapy that can be used in the treatment of many forms of illness or disease. Even minor ailments will benefit from Reiki such as headaches, anxiety and tension, and stomachaches; to more severe ailments such as heart disease and arthritis. Side effects of conventional medical treatments can be better reduced and possibly eliminated when used in conjunction with Reiki, including radiation and chemotherapy.  It may also aid in the reducing the time for the body to heal.
QIs Reiki safe for pregnant woman?
A Reiki is considered safe for pregnant woman. It can be very beneficial to reduce stress of the mother and baby.
QWhat should one expect from a Bowen treatment?
A Every patient has a different experience with Bowen. Generally, there is tingling and a feeling of warmth during the treatment. A feeling of relaxation and calm is a common report during and following a treatment. There may be a slight movement and aggravation, or a total release of tension initially. Treatments can range from 30 mins to 45 mins depending on the condition being treated. The number of treatments varies depending on the ailment being addressed.
QIs Bowen safe for pregnant woman?
A Bowen is considered safe for pregnant woman. It can be very beneficial to reduce stress of the mother and baby and to keep her body in balance. In the last trimester of the pregnancy, Bowen can be used to treat the sacrum and psoas tightness that causes extreme discomfort in the latter half of the pregnancy. It can also ready the body better for the birth by relaxing and preparing the pelvic area.
QDoes one need a referral from a Medical Doctor to see a Reiki therapist?
A No, one does not need a referral to a Reiki therapist. It is recommended that one sees a licensed health care professional, such as a MD or a Naturopathic Doctor, in conjunction when being used for the treatment of an ailment and/or disease. Reiki energy works in harmony with many different therapies and healing techniques including: surgery, chiropractic, medication and drugs, Bowen etc.
QAre there any side effects from a Reiki treatment?
A After Reiki there is a general feeling of calm and wellness after the treatments. A person may experience what is called a healing crisis. When a person’s vibration rises, toxins that are stored within the body will begin to be removed from the body. This generally appears as headache or fatigue. Bowen works in harmony with many different therapies and healing techniques including: surgery, medication and drugs, and alternative therapies.
QAre there any side effects from a Bowen treatment?
